Just 19 kilometres from the centre of Bariloche, Cerro Catedral is the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere: 120 kilometres of runs, 38 lifts and the capacity to move 6,000 people per hour up to the snow. If you're planning to ski in Patagonia in 2026, this is your complete guide: when it opens, how much the pass costs, how to get there and where to stay.

When does Cerro Catedral open in 2026?

The official opening is scheduled for Monday, June 29, 2026, subject to snow conditions. The season typically runs through to early October, making it one of the longest in South America.

2026 pass prices

Catedral has already launched its presale: the adult day pass starts from $160,000 ARS, with one important detail to keep in mind — the early presale is sold exclusively in cash (Argentine pesos). During high season (July holidays) the price rises, and children aged 6 to 11 and adults over 65 have access to reduced rates.

Adult day pass (presale, cash)from $160,000
Child day pass (6–11) / senior (65+)reduced rate

💡 Money-saving tip: skiing during the opening week (late June) or in September gives you the same slopes with far fewer people and lower rates than during the July winter holidays.

There is terrain for every level: green runs and a ski school at the base for beginners, long descents for intermediate skiers and demanding off-piste terrain at the top that attracts skiers from around the world. The snow combines natural falls with an extensive snowmaking system that ensures skiing even in dry seasons. In 2026 Catedral was honoured in Rio de Janeiro with the O Melhor de Viagem & Turismo award, Brazil's most prestigious tourism accolade — and Brazil is Argentina's main source of visitors to Patagonia.

Where to stay

Most visitors stay in Bariloche and head up to ski each day. The most popular areas:

Bariloche city centre — the option with the most life, restaurants and prices to suit every budget. Ideal if you want to combine skiing with chocolate shops, bars and Bariloche's nightlife.

Resort base (Villa Catedral) — hotels and apartments steps from the slopes, for those who prioritise ski-in / ski-out and want to hit the mountain without any transfers.

Circuito Chico and Llao Llao — the most exclusive area, overlooking Lake Nahuel Huapi, with luxury hotels and postcard-perfect scenery 20 minutes from the resort.

Best time to go

The most reliable snow is usually between mid-July and mid-August, which coincides with the winter school holidays: the best conditions but also the largest crowds and the highest prices. If you want a balance of good snow, shorter queues and more reasonable rates, aim for the second half of June or late August and September.

📅 Book ahead: the 2025 season broke occupancy records in Bariloche and demand for passes and lessons exceeded capacity on some weekends. For 2026 it's worth securing accommodation, passes and lessons well in advance, especially if you're travelling in July.
